My 40H started a small leak at the wheel drive motor , the oil will drip onto the inside of the wheel and rim . Is this a major problem to fix ? If I don't do anything to fix it , will it cause further problems other than to leak more? Thanks
You will want to verify if the leak is coming from the Brake, Drive Motor or the Torque Hub. If it is gear lube then there may be a shaft seal leak on the motor or brake causing hyd oil to enter the torque hub. This can lead to an expensive catastrophic failure when the hub explodes. No leak will fix itself so you will make that call. Seal kits are inexpensive when you consider the alternative.
Havent done one for a while, but it seems like its usually the drive motor blowing the shaft seals. Seems like that happens from guys getting these stuck in the mud or in some way getting the motors hot. If you pull the motor off the hub and wire it up you should be able to run the drives and see if its coming from the shaft seal from there. Also, pull out the pipe plug and see if the hub is overfull on oil. This will give you some insight also. Parts arent all that expensive for that sort of thing so i wouldnt let it go as VoodooMojo said that could be quite expensive if things fly apart!
Just got back to check this thread. I parked the lift in October and won't use it again until the spring. The motors never overheated or stuck in the mud , just slowly moving around my house. I'll check into it when the snow melts. Thanks for the reply.
