Where does your 270D excavators run on the engine temperature? Ours runs up right close to the red a lot of the time when the temperatures are around 100 degrees is that normal? Also the a/c wasn't working very well and the mechanic come out and checked it out and said that nothing was wrong and the air temp blowing out was 70 degrees! How is that going to keep the operator cool with all that glass? Thanks Jerry
Hi, have you blown out your rads? If your rad is clear I would check the fan speeds first and if the speeds are good then start thinking about water pump or thermostats. Check both your cab filters for your ac problem. There is one outside the cab behind it with a lock that takes your hoe key. The other is inside the cab behind the seat near the ground. Make sure the v-belt is good and tight. It is the belt on the bottom of the engine.
I tried to blow it out and didn't seem to get much out! The reason why I was asking where other peoples temp gauges was running was because we had the deere dealer out last summer and they checked everything out and I think they changed some of the hydraulic fan components and they couldn't figure anything out and they claimed it was normal for them to run hotter like close to the red but is it? On the a/c we just changed those cab filters and the operators were saying that it was kicking in and out and today we had deere come out and they said everything checked out fine and the air temp at vent was 70 degrees! I am still learning on a/c systems how every thing works and the specs but I thot that it should be cooler than that or what? Thanks for your help! Jerry
The ac system should run at 40 F at the vents. If its kicking in and out then there is still refrigerant in the system but if its not getting cool it could be low on charge. It could be a whole lot of other things though too. The best way to know is to put gauges on it and see. Gauges run about $85 for r134a gauges. If you want to learn ac systems the best one I have ever read is the john deere fundamentals of service air conditioning systems. FOS5710NC is the part number. The engine is running too warm. It should run halfway on the gauge. Not much more than that. If you can put a digital tach gauge on the fan and disconnect the proportional coil (it will put the fan at full speed) and run it at full engine speed and when the oil is warm, then post your results. We normally see if we change a motor the next week the pump fails and vice versa so we try to recommend replacing them in pairs. If you have a temp gun you can check your cooling system to see if it is operating properly. The rad should have a 40 c degree difference between the top and bottom. You can also check the thermostats with it too. Im assuming you have already checked your coolant level.
Another thing I just thought of is if your fan speeds are good and engine is good, you can check for a damaged hydraulic cooler bypass valve, they do fail and are hard to diagnose without removing them and inspecting it. It is in the return line at the control valve with the steel line that looks like a split flange fitting with only two bolts.
Thanks for the reply would that hydraulic cooler bypass valve make the engine hot like that? I guess if the hydraulic cooler is hot and it is beside the rad it would or what? Thanks Jerry
Yeah the engine rad is beside the hyd cooler in a package along with the air to air. The "larger" operators tend to notice their legs getting warm when the hyds are warming up from the pilot controls. It could explain the ac cutting out too because the ac pressures would be high with the excess heat that the high pressure cut out would cut the ac out to protect its self.
So what happens if that bypass valve is bad it sends to much oil thru the cooler or what? Jerry
It can do either. Block tank flow or allow too much back to tank and not enough through the cooler. I would start with checking your fan speeds first though.
It may have been checked already but most excavators have removable screens in front of the radiator, just behind the cooler and condenser. These screens are easy to remove and clean, we have to do ours at least twice every summer. Without proper airflow everything will run hot, including the A/C. Just a thought.
The d series machines don't have screens unless someone have put them in.
Well it got checked out today and the fan speed was 300 rpms under spec so the fan motor and pump are getting changed under warranty! It just got changed in 2011 hope we don't have to change it in another 2 yrs to!! Jerry
I like that both your pump and motor are getting changed. Not the most fun job but the more I do the easier they seem. Go figure. How did you score it under warranty? Was it machine or parts warranty?
It was machine warranty it runs out now in july so just got it under that! Jerry
