My friend has a JD315D loader backhoe. It has developed a clicking noise in the gearbox when you travel forward. As you move through the different gears the clicking speeds up. However it is not always there. It does not seem to do it in reverse. It sounds a bit like a tooth missing somewhere except you would think it would also be in reverse. Has anyone any suggestions on how to pinpoint the problem? We have jacked the machine up and it is very noticeable. It looks like the backhoe needs to come off and also the cab. How difficult is this and what do I need to do? I have a book on the 315C but am not sure if the 315D is the same. Does anyone know where I can download a service manual for the 315D? Appreciate any suggestions. Looks like a nightmare.
That would be a tough one for us to find tobac, there's a lot of parts in a drivetrain. But if the noise speeds up as move through the gears, that would indicate the problem is in the final section of drivetrain, from the 4 speed gears on back. Not sure if it's possible, but might be good to drain tranny/differential case oil in a clean pan, inspect the oil, and remove top cover of tranny and diff case to do parts inspection.
