John Deere 315SJ No Forward, Reverse & moves in Neutral.

Morning good people, I'm having an issue with my John Deere 315SJ 2010 Model. We serviced the transmission after the machine couldn't release the hand brake for some reason. After fitting the transmission back on, the gears are not functioning normal. It has 4 gears, when you select 1st FORWARD the rear wheels move backward and only when you press the accelerator hard. 2nd FORWARD yields same results as 1st. 3rd FORWARD the wheels turn forward and at 4th FORWARD it doesn't run. Even when you select REVERSE it does the same as 1st FORWARD. On NEUTRAL the wheels keep turning backward but still with no speed at all. Any assistance with this problem will be highly welcomed. Thank you. Khiba (South Africa)

Welcome to HEF Khiba ! Serial number? When you say "serviced the transmission", what specifically was done?

Hi MG2361, Transmission information: Serial number: TA45681 Model: 4WG -94 - 4WD Service done: We changed all 4FWD clutches. Reconditioned Torque Converter. Took the transmission pump for testing. After all this, we started having this problem of gears. I should also mention that the trans oil used this time around was more yellowish like hydraulic oil, whereas initially we would fill with the redish trans oil. Hope that makes sense. Thanks

Sorry, should have been more specific. Need the machine's serial number. Why was the transmission disassembled to begin with? Also, did you have the transmission control valves off as well as the duct plates beneath them when you had it apart?

My favorite transmission . very easy to work but a certain amount of care must be taken. you have a forward solenoid Y1 in manual and reverse Solenoid Y2 sits on top of trans . get a pressure gauge that can go to 20 bar with a 10 x1 mm . measure pressure at points indicated .Hope this helps test pressures at relevant ports

R A Price, so you have a ZF backhoe transmission service manual that did not come from John Deere? That is interesting.

You can never have too much info. It is really a good manual to have . I am always happy to share. My suggestion is . Get a flexible grease gun hose which happens to have 10mmx 1 thread male on each end and a cheap pressure gauge and you have a great fault finding tool.Park brake is also a good way to gauge system pressure by seeing how fast it releases at idle. Pressure best indicator of system health because it shows your solenoids operating properly. From what I remember only 2 clutches engage for any gear.
