2022 John Deere 332G Ser# 1T0332GMLNF414351 Machine at 450 HRS Have only used my machine for 3 hours since last April 2023. DEF tank is 80% full. Does it need to be dumped out and changed or can it be topped up and run for a couple hours. What problems can it cause if too long and not burned. Maybe mg2361 or some other John Deere Guru can give their opinions. Thanks Any opinions respected. Simon C
Drain it and replace it imo it is easier then having to get it our of derate if it decides its bad
Was thinking I would suck it out, and pour in new fluid, not sure if it will leave the white residue behind, Thanks for your reply Tyler. Simon C
Top it off and run it. DEF fluid has a shelf life of one year when stored in temperatures between 10 to 90*F (-12 to 32*C), which your temps up there would have most likely been in the ballpark. We have machines in our yard that have sat longer than that and have not had issues when they went out. Of course, that also depends on the age of the DEF that was put into your tank to begin with. If you are worried it is going to leave you in a pickle at a most inconvenient time, then change it ahead of time. It is cheaper than downtime.
We had troubles with stuff that burn at best a tank a year anf had more trouble then sanity would like. I'd agree with you if we knew he would burn the tank though in short order
Thanks For your reply mg2361 and Tyler. Will suck out today and put new as the head ache is not worth it. Was using it a lot before last April but got into a more money job so just left it parked and ran it 45 minutes every 3 months after trickle charging the battery. Will get to use it more in the spring of this year. Was hoping someone that had had problems with old DEF would answer. Thanks again. Simon C
Sucked out entire tank yesterday with a vacuum and pail set up with little hose into DEF tank. Worked very slick. Refilled with new. All is good now. Simon C
