Hello where i am currently working to clean out some scrap came across a John Deere dozer the couple thats responsible for the place has no idea what it is as it was the Ladies fathers and he passed away. Told them i would try to get it running to aid them in clean up. It has a good battery in it but when you go to start it it wont start. it seems to be not getting fuel to the injectors. fuel is getting to the pump but doesn't seem to be getting any further then that. I don't know if the pump has a manual or electrical shut off to tell it not so send fuel or not. If anyone has any idea's of what i can do to try and get it going for them i am open to them. The couple doesn't want to spend any money on stuff they just trying to clean up the property.
That little piece of machinery that you took the first photo of is most likely the culprit. Stanadyne Roosamaster pump. The shaft couplings degrade and eventually shear away internally, if is electric shut off start at the top of the pump and see that is getting voltage first and that it audibly clicks when turn on ignition. If mechanical pull the top cover relief fitting, it will have debris inside it if the coupling was going bad. Under the yellow painted cover with two screws is the timing mark, align the engine to TDC no.1 and the mark in the pump to the cross hair then can remove and reinstall it In Time. Rebuild will set you back around $900 Based on what I see yes it is a 350 but a S/N would help.
Typically there will be one wire connected to a stud on the cover of the injection pump somewhere, you should feel a click if you hold your hand on it and have somebody turn the key. Test light or meter to check for voltage with the key on is a good check. If all that checks, remove the two flathead screws and that little yellow window cover plate on the side of the pump (you will drain some fuel out there), look in with a flashlight and have someone turn the engine over with the key, you should see one fixed plate with a timing mark and the other plate should rotate and also have a timing mark. If the plate isn't rotating the pump has seized and the shaft has snapped as it's designed to to save the gear train.
DMILLER. you beat me by second! LOL
Are you kids done playing?? Lol The engine is a 165D.. application is a 2010 according to the pump name plate. It DOES NOT have an electric shut off.. its manual by the throttle.. notice the screw missing where the low idle screw should be? that's the shut off position.. the low idle screw is on the top cover. The only thing you can do is, take off the top cover and you'll see where the sh/off clip hits the metering valve arm.. MAKE SURE the mv is free and loose.. turns back & forth.. Once its free. HOLD THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN. crank the engine over & see if you get fuel up to THE LOOSENED LINES AT THE INJECTORS.. If no fuel, you gotta pull the pump.. and contact me.. Millers price is double what you should pay.. Let us know how your making out..
Thxs guys going to check out what you said today and see what i can figure out.
Aw Dad, we were just keeping him distracted until adult supervision showed up
.. and don't forget to put my damn tools back where you found them, when your done.. lol
Jesus... I just had lunch with my 86 year old dad, you made a chill run up my spine! I can still hear his voice saying that from back when I was a dumb teenager! The warm fuzzy part is, I sound just like him now, LOL
Got her running thanks all. wouldnt move but think i need to get it some fluids lmao. Does anyone know what this dozer takes hyro or hi trans?
Got her running good but she wont move. We have tried putting it in gear to move but nothing. Where it is sat you can tell it was backed in by driving there so not sure if we are doing something wrong or something has gone bad from sitting. doesn't seem to be engaging the tracks. moved the shifter between your legs to all different settings and tried moving the 1 on the dash does nothing. But if we put it dam near full throttle and put the shifter in between your legs in gear and try moving the one on dash the tracks jerk every so slightly but beyond that it wont move. Almost like clutchs arnt stuck or not engaging at all? ALso on another note the blade was working normally could lift the front of the machine. all of a sudden it wont lift the machine but turns and can still tilt. we checked the fluid on the dipstick for fluid and its full. been told by a friend some of these older dozers had a secondary one? also what is the little lever coming out of the floor on the left? and whats the center plug in front of the shifter? I do not know what model this dozer is exaltey as the only id plate i saw was up by the controls and its warn smooth so does anyone got a idea? Also was told it could be a reverser but someone else told me that if the pto would spin then it couldn't be that. if anyone has any idea's i am open to them and the couple is wondering what it might have in value as they must sell it as it was part of a estate.
Thepumpguysc already told you it's JD 2010 on April 12. Slightly bigger than a 350 and an earlier model, 1960-1965. Predecessor to a 450.
AH thought it that was the pumps model lol sorry
JD made a 2010 TRACTOR.. along w/ a 2010 DOZER make sure you get the correct manuals..
If I remember correctly JD clutches require hydraulic system supply to APPLY not for release. Hydraulics for trans/clutches out will not drive. As stated get a manual, makes life so much simpler than guessing.
the couple is just trying to clean up the property. they don't want to put much money into it if any really at all. they think they have a manual but if not they prolly don't want to buy one either as its not worth it if it might be something thats going to cost a decent amount to repair as all they are doing is cleaning up property to sell. Thats why i am just asking what i could do to check for them the simple things
It might be worth just "taking it off their hands".. a 1000.00 investment in parts & manuals could yield a 5000.00 -7000.00 return..
How much would you say its worth as it sits? just odd you can tell it drove to where it sits so i am wondering if the guy was starting to have trouble with it when he parked it and just from sitting whatever it was just said screw it im done lol. Sadly i can't really afford to buy it. i would love to have it i like it but just not something i can justify buying right now. I dropped them off a roll of container for scrap metal and they showed me around the property cause they werent sure what could go into it and what couldnt and what needed seperated. they have a old old old i think 40 or 50 d4 dozer on property that also ran when the father got it stuck like 15 years ago or so. he couldn't get it out so he tarped it and was going to pull it out at a later date. Well over the years the creek next to it went around it and destoryed the way drag it out. So if we got the other dozer running they were going to make a makeshift road to try and drag the other dozer out. But doubt thats going to happen so i will prolly just end up having to cut up the other dozer. But here are some crappy pics i took of it. Just wish i knew what was wrong with the Deere for them. the ladies having a hard time with all this so was hoping to have good news for her.
Gotta ask, whereabout are you?
