John Deere 500C water in engine from holes in muffler

zigoapex ยท 2018-06-06 16:24

Water filled the head from the muffler rusting out. the engine is seized, what would be the best way to get it freed up again? should I try to soak it with penetrating oil, and try to spin it backwards? or should I look at removing the head? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thx, Zig

How long since it ran? how long has it been outside? Some say soak with acetone/atf, pull the injectors to release water, pull the starter to pry on the ring gear, make two adapters to pressurize two cylinders with a porta power or paint sprayer... If it's bad enough, and the machine is worth it, pull it apart and rebuild it rather than messing with breaking it loose.

It's been awhile since it ran, I pulled the intake off, , removed the starter, pulled the injectors, and been spraying it with crc sp-400 corrosion inhibitor, but I cant get it to budge in either direction, i tried to turn the flywheel in the inspection window, and also tried putting a chain wrench on the front of the pulleys, but can't get it to move.

You have to have some patience if that is the route you are going to take. Pull the injectors mix up equal amounts of acetone and trans fluid and fill the cylinders. Suck out as much water as possible first. It will take 2 or 3 months for that stuff to loosen things up. If it hasn't run in a year or so it sure isn't going to break loose if a week or so.

What kind of job is it to pull the head, and either put a used one in, (if we could find one) or rebuild it?

what shape is the whole machine in? that is a 40 year old tractor , what are your plans for it if it runs? you might be better off to just get a newer that runs and save your self some time and money and have something with some resale value when your done.

It's my friends machine, I agree, but he wants to get it running, wants to use it to make topsoil. I thinking we she should part it out, probably get half his money back, to get another one.

get the motor model and call some wreaking yards, ( probably same as some farm tractors ) maybe the fastest and cheapest way . may have to swap a few parts
