Hey guys ive got a customer who has a 120 excavator and he is wanting me to come out and remove the cab so a welder can weld somthing underneath it. Does anyone here know what all is required to remove the cab....is there quick disconnects and bulkheads or what? I would like to find out before i go out there so ill have some idea of what im dealing with....thanks.
Does he need just the cab removed or the floor plate also? Removing the cab is very easy. Take the floor mat out, remove the plastic covers behind the seat, there should be 4 small allen head bolts, 2 on each side and nut in each corner holding it to the floor plate. Remove these and lift the cab a few inches. As you lift it watch for any wiring, should be a ground wire and wiper motor wires ect. that need removing. I may have missed something but if you watch what you're doing it's pretty simple. Then if he needs the floor plate removed you need to disconnect wiring harnesses, pilot hoses, heater hoses ect. You can remove it as a unit or cab first then the floor plate. I've always done the latter so you have much more room to work removing wiring harnesses ect. Hope this helps.
Im pretty sure the whole thing has to come off....but you say its easier if you remove the cab first,so thats what ill do. I appreciate it,thanks.
Well it wasnt too bad. It was full of dirt and trash and it took me a while to blow it all out to get to the bolts. And i had a bit of a hard time getting the wiring harnesses undone but it wasnt all that hard. Here is the reason for taking off the cab.....it needs alittle welding ...tomorrow ill take a pic of the welding job and you guys can tell me if you think it will hold up or not..
Well the job is done and alls well....here is a pic of what the welder did to the main frame....do ya think it will hold? Has anyone had this done to their machine? If so how long did it last?:beatsme
Sorry to say but that looks like :cussing . And i'm guess if the original mainframe and welding job didn't hold up this sure isn't. This thing must have had a hard life.
Actually this is the first weld it has had. Personally i would have filled in the break and put a more narrow strip of plate diagonally covering the crack and reinforcing it all the way down.....but im not the welder that was hired to do it...im the mechanic.:yup
