Joystick Repair

On this new to me Volvo ECR58D.... The Joysticks work as they are supposed to. The left joystick has a button for the horn. The right Joystick has a button for use to toggle between thumb and boom function. (For clarity there is a toggle switch for opening and closing the thumb OR swinging the boom right to left) Pressing the button allows you to choose which function. My joysticks are missing the rubber covers for these buttons. Rubber or plastic or whatever kind of profile it had over it. As a result, pressing the horn button or selecting the function is sometimes tricky. Easy to do if you take your gloves off and use your fingernail. My local dealer will happily sell me a pair of brand new joysticks ($850 each) - - Which I am sure is why the previous owner did not repair them. I find it difficult to believe that Volvo built this machine in such a way that if the horn button goes out, you have to buy a c omplete new joystick. Kinda like having to buy a new steering wheel for your car when the horn buttin gives up. Has anybody ever managed a repair like this?
