K3v112dt pump

I have a 2800 link belt trackhoe that has about 7000 hrs on it. The pump is whining pretty bad and the oil is getting hot. I say hot its getting close to the red on the gauge and takes about 20 min to get there. The cylinders have been repacked and was thinking about putting a kit in that kawasaki pump. Any recommendations? Should I put the whole kit in or just regulator plate, rotor, and pistons and seal kit? What wears the most in those pumps and where is the majority of the bypass coming from? Any input would be appreciated.

Good day Suggest you check out the source of the heating use one of those temperature guns, be a shame to rebuild the pump and not resolve the issue. Those pumps can be noisy be sure the tank pressurizing filter is working. Kind regards Uffex

Most wear will come between the rotating group and the manifold plate. A simple case drain test on the pump itself would confirm leakage in the high pressure loop. Usually with severe leakage there, you will see a significant loss in hydraulic power and speed, and the pump is usually quite noisy.

What series of machine do you have. Link-Belt was notorious for years for having just crap gauges. Most of the machines ended up with manual gauges installed because the machine ones could not be trusted.

Thermal imager or IR gun is your friend in this case! If the pump wears out it is usually combination of the weak/ slow and high temperature. If you have high temp but not weak/slow - i would look at the oil oil level, oil cooler, thermal bypass valve, heat shield and air flow. For whining sound - intake strainer, tank breather, suction restriction, and high case drain pressure. Also look in to quality/lubricity of the hydraulic fluid.

Okay preciate the tips. I bought the hoe and think it had been sitting for some time. Surprisingly, there were no leaks machine was clean. One owner said he went by the book on maintenance. II changed all fluids including hydraulic oil cleaned the suction screen which was clean like the oil that was in it. I will take a heat gun and try to find the source and change vent. Im not sure how or what line to do the case drain and how much is too much. Thanks again. Will keep ya posted.

It's a quantum series. Gauges work but don't know how accurate they are but will find out with a heat gun. Preciate it.

The about 3/4 hose(s) coming from the top of the pump is a case drain.

I got a case cx 160 i got a pretty good expensive schooling from and still working on me. The motor shaft stripped out on one of the final drive motors. I wished i would have got a remaned motor but i opened it up and replaced the shaft. Now it dont want to pull good and have to tap the other pedal to make it pull. I swopped the foward and reverse relief valves on with no difference. Can anybody tell me whats going on? Thanks
