does the wide track machines wear the chains more when your using for clearing land ive owned several doziers over past 15 years and this is my first lgp machine were doing some clearing in a subdivision where theres lots of diffirent slopes and angles just noticed after about 50 hrs on this job my spockets are getting a lot of wear note my chains already had play in the links never had a machine to do this
Yes, you should use the smallest shoes possible for the job, in general. The wider shoes will act like a bigger lever on the chain assembly than skinnier shoes. Riding on slopes and especially on highly variable surfaces will put a lot of twist on the chain. Wide shoes on rough terrain should be avoided if possible. You will notice that most drilling rigs operating in the rocks have skinny shoes, many only 12" across. Lots of sprocket wear is usually caused by too much packing conditions like mud not being freed from the shoes. Travelling in reverse often, and having chains too tight are common sources of accelerated wear.
another thought is that your sprocket pitch doesn't match your chain pitch, if one or the other was replaced without replacing the other.
