HELP!! 1.7ton Final drive oil does NOT have the normal fill, level and fill plugs.... Remove the outer bolt... this is locktight in so know its not that, inner bolts... they have washer with bonded rubber seal... oil on bolts BUT i am unable to get oil in or out.... Does any one know of this type final drive, i have looked at many machines, this Kobelco is the only digger with out the normal final drive oil plugs as seen on all other manufactures Cheers Rob Note: oil on rubber track is oil from ME not the drive

    Good day Scorpa I must admit I have not seen a transmission without a level plug if it helps most have a fill and level at both 3 & 9 o'clock, it appears that yours is sealed for life, locally there must be a way of filling topping up, have you tried removing one of the coop studs?     Hi I will check my kobelco sr17 to morrow. But I know that my little kobelco u10-3 doesn't have any oil in the drives, same there no level or fill plug.

    Those drives are lubricated by the hydraulic hydraulic oil. Same as yanmar vio17

    Hi Guys Thanks for the replys, yes i am unsure, it would amaze me that the gearbox is sealed for life? is it possible it is direct drive? I still have had no progress on this.. Cheers

    Hi scorpa1, not sealed for life as the oil returns to tank and is filtered and cooled. As long as there is hydraulic oil in the machined they are always luvricated. They seem to last quite well.

    Hi all. Joshyuk is right due to the final drive do not have "PLANETARY GEAR REDUCTION UNIT". The sprocket is drived directly by shaft of travel motor.
