can someone take a swing at guessing what a counterweight system weighs for a d155? looks like 7 "plates" or so in a square box with pullhitch, thanks
Is it factory or something someone built themselves for added weight and ballast? Otherwise get measurements of the plates, roughly and then figure square feet of steel in them and do some math computation using standard weights for the thickness of plates being used.
it is factory. i just didnt know if it should weigh 2,4,or 6000+ lbs. i just got pictures of it,so i cant measure it yet.
Ok since its not yours yet, just have them take some measurements overall and then do the math to compute, or pass the measurements along to us and we'll help with the calculating, just curious as to why you want to know, planning on taking it off if you buy it or thinking its not enough weight?
thanks Randy88, ill get some measurements and figure it up. im needing a pretty good size counterweight to hang off the blade when i have a heavy load on the hitch of the dozer. i found this counterweight, and its really cheap. just not sure what it weighs. i didnt know if a old komatsu guy on here would know off the top of his head or not. i know a counterweight for a d8n or d7h is like 4800lbs, so didnt know if this was comparable or not. since dozers are about the same weight. a cubic ft of steel is about 480lbs, does that sound about right? thks again
Yair...You never stop learning. I have been messing around with dozers for over fifty years and I have never even HEARD OF counterweights. Can anyone provide pictures and describe the application? Mostly with me high draft loads on the drawbar meant taking the blade OFF, can't imagine why you would hang more weight out there. Cheers.
when i pull the plow with the dozer, it rears back and pulls with the back third of the tracks, then spins out sometimes. hanging weight off the blade keeps the nose down, and dozer balanced. im not sure how to post pics. but usually they mount where the drawbar, ripper or winch would......i want to hang it off the blade to help out my situation.
tj, thats what I came up with for a cubic foot of steel too was 480 lbs, not sure how your going to fasten this to the blade, but it should be mounted pretty solid somehow. I understand what your doing, but what kind of plow are you pulling and with what dozer, I'm under the impression its not the 155 the counter weight comes off of?
The counterweight weighs around 4,200 lbs, according to my manual ,i have one on one of my tractors. I'm considering taking it uff and putting my hyster towing winch on it. Don
I also have a u-blade off one of my other 155's that will keep the nose down its quite a bit heavier then the straight blade. Don
