I have a Komatsu D38P Dozer (2000 or so). After running for about a hour it suddenly dies. It starts right back up after it dies and operates normally for a few minutes then dies again. All guages are normal and there are no warning lights. I have recently changed fluids and filters. Unit has 3400 hours. Any idea where to start trying to fix this issue? Dave
Wionder if the fuel solenoid is dropping out. Not sure if there was some computer control in those years. Wonder if the engine is being shut down on a false overtemperature signal. How hot is it when it dies. Might be a good idea to post a serial number. Simon C
I agree that it is a fuel issue. When it dies, does it sputter, or just dies like it is shut down?
When it dies it is not overly hot, operating at 8000ft with cooler weather, gauge is mid range. When it dies it is like it is being shut off. no sputtering or anything. does seem more prone when operating in reverse though. It is a 1999 model. ID 4740006P086345.
Not familiar with that engine, but my old Cummins 8.3 has a solenoid that can be zip tied open. Did that on a long trip one time when my alternator died and the batteries ran out of juice to keep the solenoid open. if yours can be held open, next time it dies, zip tie it open and see if it dies in short order again or keeps running.
