Komatsu D65e-8 Transmission / Steering Oil

KFD ยท 2024-02-06 11:11

Does anyone have any insight into what type of gear oil I should use for the 25 gallons of tranny / steering oil in my D65e-8? My manual says SAE 30,... however,.... can it be engine oil? Should it be non-detergent or have detergent? Specific additives? Any help y'all can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Kurt

If it's a transmission then I suggest that engine oil is not the fluid to be using because it does not have the required power train additives. We had a similar discussion a while back regarding oil for a KOM excavator final drive which would require exactly the same specification of oil as a transmission. See this LINK .

Any brand that meats T0-4 spec will work fine. Lot's to chose from from all the manufactures.Mobil makes Mobiltrans HD30 for example.

Thank you both for the prompt reply. I'll stick to TO-4 spec oil. Much appreciate your input. -Kurt

With a TO-4 spec oil you have lots of choices (see the link) because all the major oil companies produce it. Also don't rule out Cat branded TDTO oil which is their own-brand version of commerical TO-4 oil. Sometimes Cat dealers have promotions on lubricants that makes them cheaper than buying from an oil company.
