My father picked up an old Komatsu D85A-12 which chewed up one of the final drives real bad. We're trying to find some "new" (to us) parts but are having a bit of a time determining which years/models will fit. I believe we have found a parts machine locally which may have some bits but we've not yet been able to determine the serial number of that machine to know if they're even close. In my limited digging I was able to determine that later D85As have different part numbers on the final drive parts but we're not quite sure at what point they change, nor any obvious ways to tell what this incomplete machine may be. I have already asked what year my serial number may be from but unfortunately also don't have a definitive answer. Anyone out there familiar with these old dozers who may be able to shed some light?
If you can find out if the parts dozer is a -12 , the engine has its own number and is close to your dozer you should be alright . That will be a Cummings motor . The A goes right up to the D85A-21 , its the -12 which means more .
