Komatsu Dozer D20p clutch problems

Harland ยท 2013-07-19 20:43

When operating the dozer the left side drives but the right side is froze up - I have already checked the hoses checked the linkage and tried to adjust that but have had no change. The Dozer is a 1996 and has 5,200 hours on it.

Okay, so by froze up you mean the track won't move, or it won't stop moving?

When I am sitting on the dozer the left track will spin and drive, the right track moves freely but no power - could the right hand clutch be frozen because I heard of a problem that the clutches freeze together and are they dry?

If the steering clutches freeze together that track won't quit driving. That is a common problem with these. If that track spins freely, hopefully that clutch is slipping. These are dry clutches, have you pulled the drain plug under it to see if you get oil or clutch lining? You shouldn't get either one. Look about halfway down the first page in the dozer forum, there is a thread titled "section for d21". It is a lot to read but it will teach you what there is to know about these little critters.

Broken shaft, broken gear, or I have seen these that would free wheel *after* a clutch had frozen, the friction disks lose all the drive splines or lugs off them if only some of them free up... first you break off the frozen ones, then the free ones follow as you try to use it, or simply are too few to drive. :my2c
