What series is your 228 sledgehammer? The Wix website shows the hyd is a 51524 for the pc228uslc-2. Doesn't show a number for the -1 or -3. Have you tried calling a Komatsu dealer to get a filter number? If they can't help you, and you can get your hands on a Wix filter book, there's a section in the back of the book that you can sometimes find a filter by measuring the dimensions. I've done it before on these odd Japanese filters. BTW, sorry your thread got completely taken over with no regard by mmgunner. :beatsme mmgunner, welcome to the forum. :usa But seriously, if you want an answer to your question of what type of friction lining works best on the drums of your Link Belt, I think you would be hard pressed to find an answer from a thread that's asking a question about a Komatsu hyd filter, don't ya think? You'd have much better results if you would get your probationary posts over and done with at a test thread, there are several in the forum sub-sections. Then, when you become a Junior Member, you can start your own thread titled "what friction material for Link Belt drums". You'd probably have much better luck then.

Go to wix website http://www.wixfilters.com/index.asp Type 51524 in the quick search box on left side of page. That will take you to a page that has a link. Just click the 51524 in the middle of the page and that will take you to a page that has the filter dimensions. That way you can measure your old filter and see if this is the proper replacement.

i was totally stumped on it--- there was a big filter and a small one. both cartridge style. couldn't find a replacement element for the small one for the life of me. called komatsu themselves and it's a komatsu add on. high pressure return for running scrub cutters and stuff like that. not standard equipment so it's not in any filter books.
