I just changed the oil in the swing motor, and it now says to run the engine at low rpm and open the bleeder plug until oil comes out. The "book" does not show a good picture of where this is.....any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
As I recall there is a motor and a reduction gear underneath the motor. The dipstick and drain are for the reduction gear oil which should be 30Wt. engine oil. The motor itself is hooked directly to case drain and does not need to be bled. The standard model excavators have a small pipe plug on a cover on top of the reduction gear that can be removed to ease filling the case back up. Since oil goes in the same tube that the dipstick goes into, filling the case tends to trap air which will burp from time to time. Removing the plug while filling reduces the mess somewhat.
