Having problems with my left hand final drive on a KH-71. The left hand final drive seemed much weaker than the right hand one and it got worse when hot. I changed the complete unit for a new one and it made no difference. I then replaced the swivel seals and oil and still it's the same, useable but extremely annoying. Any ideas chaps? all the linkages seem OK and the valves appear to be doing what they should. Cheers, Paul
Good day Paul Have you tried full stroking the boom cylinder when traveling to see if the machine straightens out, that check can tell you a lot about the problem, seems you have covered many of the points already. Please make sure that you do not have binding in the idlers or some other issue with the running gear. Kind regards Uffex
Thanks for that Uffex but operating anything made next to no difference other than a slight slowing down. Seems exactly the same going in reverse too. Any other thoughts? Cheers, Paul Just re read your post and it says 'full stroking' not sure if I did that, will try again in the morning.
Good day Paul That check tells us that this is not a pump flow issue it is normal for the machine to slow down when testing , you have renovated the central joint and replaced the drive unit that does not leave much to take out of the problem. I suggest something is missed along the way, I know its a lot of work but if you switch the drive lines to see if the problem moves over to the other side. If it does it means there is still a fault with the central joint. Please check that the drive motor is the correct part it is not unknown for errors of this nature to happen. Kind regards Uffex
Thanks Uffex, I will try swapping the lines, you are not the first to suggest this, a friend had a similar issue with a drive supplied by the same company, it was just slower motor in the end :-( Any tips on the best way of doing it? I guess you have to make hoses up to cross over from the motors? Cheers, Paul
Good day Paul Changing the lines is a task that differs according to the machine, I suggest take a look at the lines in some case's its is easier to disconnect at the motors take the lines back and spin the central joint 180 degrees, others it is less of an issue to make the work from the top. Be aware that fluid will run from the lines so have plugs at hand. Before going down that route please drain a small amount of lube from the transmaiion you could have a bearing lock up it should show up, one other check you can make is to check how much pressure is required to drive each track, lift the track and rotate the chain compare each side counting and timing the revolutions also helps, if the pressure is significantly more on the slow side it will be pointless to switch the lines as the problem will be transmission end. You will need a pressure gauge and adapter but it will save a lot of work. Good luck Uffex
