Hello everyone . This is my first post so i wil try to be specific.(sorry if i will write wrong, i'm not a verry good english speaker) So... My dad bought a 1993 Kubota r410 ,4 cylinders wheell loader, with backhoe atachments. this wheell loader was in an overwall good condition. It had the fuel pump missing and (probably last owner run out of fuel and burn the pump; so i bought one and problem solved); also had some bad bushing ( problem solved). But my biggest problem is the engine radiator. So i ll try to explain: First time when i went to do some work after i finished ,on the way home i climb a slope .At the end of the slope the wather from the engine start to boil! I went home and i removed the radiator and iy has some cells suspended ,about 15 -20%.Ialso discovered that the fan blades was changed, pushing the air from outside , inside the engine compartment, so al the components were verry hot .So i cheked the parts manual and i saw that the original fan blade were pulling the air from engine compartment , outside. (is it normal ) The engine start to get hot only when i run the wheel loader on road ,or climb a hill .. when i do backhoe work the themperature start to go down by 30%. from when i removed the radiator end clean it up , the wather never boiled up, but it still run slightly hot... I even removed the thermostat ... I don t have the original wather gauge , and this gauge is from a tracto, so it s dificult for me to appreciate the temps... but by hand the radiator fell hot.. 1What problem you think it is? 2The fan blade shoud pull from engine to outside or otherwise? 3what is the normal coolant temperature? Whith thermostate and without? 4 you think is a radiator problem or a wather pump problem ?( wather level in the radiator doesen t rise when accelerating but flows) Thak you verry much guys!!!
1.Check or replace your thermostat and pressure cap. 2.Fan should blow from inside to outside as your manual says. 3. 4.I think the water pump is OK, they usually fail by leaking by the shaft seal. Your rad may be partially blocked by sediment or the fins between the tubes may be missing, requiring either cleaning or having the rad re-cored at a rad shop. Let us know how it turns out.
Thank you norite for your answer The wather pump doesn't leack at all ... What mean to re core a radiator and how mutch it cost ? You think taht the radiator doesnt loos heat or the flow of wather trought radiator isn't enought.? Some say tahat if the coolant doesn't boil ,the coolant coud have even 212 F ..... Idon t know what to say.. I woud tray with a new radiator but cost 400 450$... and if it s not a radiator problem... :Banghead Endeed some fins are broken ...
Also, have you checked your anti-freeze level in your coolant? Anti freeze in the coolant not only prevents the water in the coolant from freezing but raises the boiling point of the coolant. So before you invest in a new rad, check the thermostat, pressure cap, antifreeze and reverse the fan so it blows from inside to outside and see if any of these solve the problem. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice norite . I will put new anti freeze in the wather to see the result. I also bought a thermomether , so tomorow (tomorow i have some work to do) i'll put it in the rediator tank when it's hot to see the temps.. i'll update you once i'll test this method. Thanks again
So today i had a work day , about 6 hours, time in wich the engine reach maximum temp of 82 celsius degrees. I found out that the pressure cap is not functional , because the valve inside is broken . i will buy another one.. I don t know what the previous owner did with this loader..The oil radiator was in the back ,and now is in the front (i guess he tought to improve air circulation, instead of buying another radiator. I also found out that the radiator doesen't have those lateral sponges..This sponges have a role? They ''seal'' radiator not to get hot air to fan blade side of the rad? Looking trought maintenance book i also found that i miss one metal plate wich i think seals the bottom end of the radiator .The plate get on top of the exaust pipe and cover it and and one end of plate is split in 2 pieces that passes by the exaust pipe support and are bended down( i guess when you are traveling they act like a wing and sent fresh air toward radiator) .What do you think?
I'd try replacing the faulty pressure cap.
