we were on the prowl for equipment in the high desert and this is what we came across....
and more
even though its not a Duramax it still looks good
great pictures pullpan, great pieces of equipment. The international looks a great truck.
Thats some real nice equipment...I would love to go off-roading with that 6x6 International I can't believe it has the Durmax...it must be a beast!!
i think there are a few Duramax fans in that department, it had a Cat in it. i Love the Logo
lol. yah, now I think about it; I think it would be just a little underpowered with the D-MAX.
9420pullpan, Where were you in the High Desert. I live very near the the high desert. Let me know next time you come down. We could have lunch, a beer, coffee, or something. Bob
They only have 3 tie down chains on the dozer. Wonder if DOt ever checks them out.
we were down in Lancaster for work. we were working at the Wal-Mart on the east side of town. and me and "Hoeman" were bored looking for equipment. and thats one of the things we found. i have some more pics we went down around Sun City i believe off of Newport ave and found Sukut's 5110 and snapped some pics of that it was at night so didnt come out great. but i will include some of those and some others enjoy
and around Lancaster we found this one another job, the Cat 660 is huge machine! but the B model 637's were rough
Great pics, Love the first ones, combines my two favorite jobs!!!!!:usa
yeah, great pictures pullpan I like the 660 tractor, dont know why caterpillar stop to produce it:beatsme .I would like to see the 2007 660!
9420pullpan, How long are you going to be in Lancaster? I did 2 jobs there last week. A windy son of a gun. It was so windy that the transfers bringing gravel had to leave the trailer box in the truck going back so it wouldn't blow over on the trailer.
auh we'll be here for a few more days working at night so. but i did go down to Riverside and went to the cat dealer and the deere dealership. found some interesting things... ill post a new thread later
Not a legal tie down on the lowbed but nice equipment they got down there. Chino hills has a sweet 6x6 Pete water tender that i would definately like for my personal stable. also LAFD has several NRC 60 Ton wreckers for heavy rescue trucks.
nice pics pullpan esp of the lowboy/dozer setup is that a D6 Or D7 Logging dozer Of l.a county ? Bulldog
Everyone missed the obvious :beatsme Can you say OVERLOADED!!! :duh
no it is not a D6 or D7 it is a D8R with a mechanical angle blade and bc of that it has a 2 passenger cab with a hepa filtration system has some sort of fire protection that rolls down over the windows in chance of being caught in a fire, it can with stand a 3000 degree fire. it has aircraft landing lights and kevlar lines. all of this info was given to me from an old demonstrator operator (blade operator) for Cat he was and still is a fireman for LA county. he came to our school and gave a demonstration. he was a graduate of Penn Tech.
he also showed a video of a 84in smooth drum filled with concrete with a "W" patern welded on it all around i think the steel is a good 1/2 inch wide. it is set up similar to the hand roller found on a tennis court. they attach this drum to an old D8 H/K with two winches on the rear with pulleys going to each side of the dozer blade in the front and the dozer sits at the top of the steep slopes in So Cal and burries the blade and rolls this drum down hills to knock down brush 4-6 in trees and what ever else comes in its path LOL. they do this supposively to have a controlled burn on the slopes. it is something i would love to see in action. but i dont have any pics of this..
Dirt Dogg While this may not seem right to you poor folks in the Eastern half of our great country, it is perfectly normal here in CA. The lowboy is only 2 axle, but it has 8 tires per axle, and when expanded to 10' wide, the rear trailer group is good for 60,000#. That lowboy is a wide neck Cozad, and looks like a 60 tonner. Here in CA, we can permit up to 22,000# on the front axle, 46,750# on the drivers of the tractor, and 60,000# on the trailer for a total gross of 128,750# if it is balanced out right. The truck nd trailer will light weight at around 38,000#, allowing for up to 90,750# of load. The D-8R as pictured with the sweeps and extra wide cab probably goes about 85 to 88,000#, so well within legal limits. I have a similar truck with a 44 ton Murray lowboy and haul D-8R and D-8T with it on a regular basis.
I guess us yanks ain't livin rite See were only allowed 20K on steer if were running super singles up front otherwise were limited to tire capacity. Then were only allowed 34K on tandems and that doesn't matter whether its the truck or trailer. Now if you have a split axle trailer you can get lucky and run 20K per axle as long as the spread is longer than 9 feet. For that kind of a load in IL you would run a triple axle truck so you could get 46750 on it but you would run a 4 axle trailer if your measurements are correct because that trailer in IL would only allow you to gross 73280. As far as all them tires are concerned here in IL that wouldn't gain you one pound on your gross rating. Now for more fun if it is between feb 15 and may 15 we are only allowed 70% of gross if you are not on designated truck routes This time of year its hard to move my D6R with a 235 inch truck and 42 ft trailer, so you can see how I may have missed it http://www.dot.state.il.us/road/size_weight_bklt.pdf
Kool pics pullman!:usa jazak: You and yo son are :scool guys.
ive seen those dozers in action a few times. work pretty good together.
LA County D8R's These are really cool tractors. I remember when CDF contracted to build these. Safety Cab in Fresno, CA built the cab big enough for the swamper to ride in with the operator. All of the window glass is oven tinted glass. The lights are all HID. Here are some more pics.
Great pics , we have been called to go to fires before , never got to play, but the dozers made a ton of money sittin on the lowboys about being overloaded , here in New Mexico , if you get called to any federal problem you dont have to worry about permits , weight or width all you have to worry about is height, chaining it down safely and getting there quickly and your truck/trailer being able to handle it , we even took a D9R to a fire once with a quad axle lowboy all in one piece , the best part was the NMDOT escorted us
Loving these pics of the fire dozers...any more?
If you go to www.wildlandfire.com they have pics of alot of different fires, dozers, crews and trucks in there photo page. Very cool pics. Trbo
Here are some more from LA County Track Attack...
fire cats got to watch them in action last year, saw a tanker drop the Whole load of retardant on one
Need guts to drive one. Think of the balls you need to drive that thing into a wall of fire. These guys have nerves of steel. I always wondered what they would do in a flash over.
I know what I would do, it involves a pile of feces in my pants
If you talk to railroaders you'll get stories like that too, at least around here. One of the companys here in VT does ALOT with the state police working on Operation Stop. During one derailment the dump truckers where hauling right down the interstate way over loaded. A trooper stopped them and ticketed all of them he could get his hands on. The railroad's owner found out and made a call. The trooper was down there a little while later ripping up the tickets. Same thing for moving equipment here you can't move equipment sat and sun but they moved sidebooms and other eqiupment in on a sun and had a police escort for doing it.
I thought the idea was to stay out of the fire and cut tracks / fire breaks to try and stop the fires progress. I agree balls of steel and all credit to the guys that oerate them :notworthy
To all the fire dozer operaters we salute you:usa same goes for any firefighter.great pics guys!:notworthy
The idea is to keep out of the fire, but with wind changes, changes in fuel load, dry timber and brush, etc, etc. The fire can come around on you before you can get out or away. Brian
Roger that. You wanna stay out of the flames, but the flames ALWAYS have another idea, and somehow want to come to you, and no way can a dozer out run the flames.
they sure do an amazing job. three cheers for ALL firefighters
Yea, we got a lot of guys to be thanking and saying our prayers for this Memorial Day weekend. We get to do what we do because of all the great Men and Women on the front lines, Military, Police, Fire, etc.etc. etc.
Not to hijack this thread, but we get by with moving equipment about anytime we need to ,including the middle of the night. Seems that the railroad has some friends in the right places. and cost is not an option
