can you fix a leaking drive motor on cat 256b with asv tracks or does it have to be replaced
No such thing as a 256B. Do you have a 256C by any chance..? A Serial Number would clear everything up. The answer to your question is - "it depends". It may be possible to fix but whether it can be fixed economically is another matter. It all depends what is causing the leak.
Good morning, you are right, it's a 257b, here is the serial #. *cat0257Baslk01970*.any info on this machine would be greatly appreciated.
Well this might be a start, see attached file: Anything in particular you are looking for?
OK, so that's cleared that up. The motor is repairable to the extent that repair parts exist for it, however as I said before the issue is what is the root cause of the leak.? If it's something like a failed seal then it should be relatively simple. If something major has happened inside the motor to put oil pressure on the seal and cause it to leak, then that's a different story. A complete Reman (exchange) motor is around $2000 from Cat. The motor is Ref. #9 in the illustration below. There are two possibilities of Part Number for the motor, 222-5662 or 280-7862. Repair parts for the two motors are different so it's important for you to determine which motor you have on your machine. Seal kits are priced at around $550 for the 222-5662 motor & $485 for the 280-7862. I've attached the breakdown of the parts for them. Not everything is available though, there are no parts for the motor itself for example. Seal kits are available for both Part Number of motor but I can find no details of what's actually in them.
Two threads have been merged here. (And the poll, which really didn't serve to advance the discussion, has been removed.) Carry on...
