S.n. 642 and engine #3897196. Lombardini? Engine. got a call to look at said machine. Owner said it needed a whiff of ether to start it if it sat for 20 minutes or 20 days. Gravity fed from tank to the inlet of lift pump. Fuel line was dry rotted so I replaced that. Fuel has some water in it. Loosened up the fuel lines and cranked it. All kinds of fuel on the low pressure side. Tightened them and removed the steel lines from the unit pumps. Barely a dribble and certainly not enough to go uphill to get to the injectors. Cracked the bleeder screws at the unit pumps and had plenty of fuel there. Messed with the shut off and it didn’t make any difference. Just for kicks removed the air intake hose to giver her a whiff of gogo and at least a cup of water came out and who knows how much she sucked while I cranked the engine. Told the owner and he wasn’t the least bit surprised. Said every spring they fire it up and it pukes a bunch of water out?!?! He just needs it running. I’m ready to condemn the pump but does anyone have any experience with these engines?
