Going to look at a liebherr pr 731c 1987 bulldozer and wondered if anyone knew anything about these. The guy says that on cylinder has a head gasket gone so its mixing oil & water or it could be a cylinder liner cracked if its the later can the liner be done in the machine or is it an engine out job.Are there any other things to look for that anyone has encountered on these machines. How common are the engines in these its a merc OM421 engine. Thanks in advance.
Liner can be done in place, things to look for, cracks on track frames around the top roller pedestal, final drives are suspect because the bearings in the input shaft fail and bits fall into the gears, the brake drum is mounted on the outside on end of brake shaft so check if their is any bearing movement on the drum, this is a hydrostatic transmissions and they are guilty of the hydraulic pump x 2 swash plate bearings sticking, run machine and make sure it travels in a straight line and stops as soon as you put travel joystick in neutral .Any travel pump failure can contaminate the travel motor so can be very expensive to repair.
thanks, machine has done 3500 hours from new.
If it's cheap,it's worth a punt. Check on parts price and availability first though
they want £7500 for it.
