I'm looking at a 510d backhoe. It looks well maintained going to test it out this coming weekend. Is there anything special with these i should be looking out for. Also what years were they made the serial is 251359t thanks in advance for your help
Made in the 90's. Make sure it's cold before you start it, not plugged in or warmed up already. It should start fine, operate the hydraulics smooth when cold, and shift between fwd and reverse fairly smooth at idle cold. The slop in the backhoe is a big wear point, stretch it out all the way and see how much it bounces back and forth, it can get so bad you won't be able to hit the trench easily. It is a lot of pins and bushings to take all that slop out, live with it or buy a better one most likely. Bucket and outrigger cylinder rods get damaged, can get expensive to repair/replace. Check the loader bucket tilt cylinder rod isn't touching the frame and wearing the rod.
ALL GOD POINTS.. MAKE SURE to tell the seller U WANT A COLD ENGINE.!! If it’s WARM when u get there, he’s hiding something.. LOOK for a “quick start” can.!!! If it’s cold, ask the seller to walk u thru HIS starting procedure.. as they all have their quirks.. If the 1st thing he does is grab the ether can, WALK/RUN AWAY..
Remove the engine oil dipstick and look for blow-by coming out of it.
Operate it long enough to get the hydraulic/transmission oil good and warm. Some problems may only show themselves after its been running for a while.
