I have a JD 850C that caught on fire, now it needs to be pulled 800ft up a very steep hill to get on lowboy to bring back to my shop. Any advive on easiest way to free the tracks so it can be pulled? Was planning on bringing in another 850 and a 9520 tractor to move it with, and thought i could remove one gear in the final drive and let it free wheel. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the damage Swamp rat. I'm thinking on that model you would have to remove the entire outside planetary cover, then it would free wheel. What about the blade on the ground? How much damage did the fire do?

Insurance totaled it, but it mostly burned the electrical and a couple hoses. I had a 220 Hoe working with it and after 3 fire extinquishers and no releif in site i got on the hoe and pulled the hood off and then buried the complete dozer. What happened was the a/c froze up and the belt somhow cut the hose to the oil cooler and then it ignited, then fuel line burned into and oil and deisel was on fire and filling up the belly pan. The blade is on the ground but i can lift it up and chain it clearing package then it should move ok then. Other tan electrical the dozer is ok - well except for rust now, but will be a great dozer for parts.

Check the manual, my case has a port you pressure up to release the brakes and I used a portapower and just put a fitting on it and pumped to 300psi and was able to push with a tractor then.
