You may have to pull a light out and check the bulb to see if the ones online will lock back into the housing.

If there the automotive bulbs then it would be the same as putting HIDs in a car. The bulb that you buy just screws in then you have to find a spot to mount the balast's for each light. find a spot to mount them is the only problem that you might have.

I am looking at some lights for my machine too. My machine is 24v and I am going to replace the whole housing. Check out this site it may help. http://www.magnalight.com/showproduct.aspx?productid=1817 They are pricey but worth it!

You will get more light output, however adding HID's to any light housing not designed for them will reduce the effectiveness. Thats why most cars that come stock with them have projectors to focus the light. You will get more light but you unless you aim it down very low you are going to blind everybody you face. I know from hooking up my cars when I was younger, also when its snowing for some reason it seems to reflect off the snow more than a regular halogen bulb so that makes it harder to see. I would say your best bet is to find a good set off auxiliary driving lights and mount those in place of the stock lights. If you still want more light then go to the HID's, I'm sure they will have a better designed housing than the stock lights, which will help with the HID's hope this helps. ps also remember that a lower temp bulb will give you the best light output when buying aftermarket kits, the higher temps above 6500k are more for the color than the light. And you will get what you pay for, try to buy german.
