Hi so i have a 950k cat payloader and i was wondering if until the problem is fixed if i jump and or charge the batteries overnight does it hurt to run the payloader with that warning light on? will it cause other problems so to speak. Thank you

If the system voltage is not up to snuff because the alternator is not charging it could seriously affect the operation of the electronics. A fully functioning alternator will be providing over 14v when the engine is running compared to around 12.5v from a fully-charged battery. From comments on here various models (not yours though) have history of experiencing all sorts of electronic glitches if alternator output is low, let alone non-existent. A thought. Have you checked belt tension yet.?

I would check the voltage while running at least. If it's 13V or higher, it should be fine to run until you get something come up. If there is no alternator output, 12.5V like Nige said, then you might want to disconnect the excite wire at the alternator, on vintage diesels, that would be the largest amp draw on the battery if there were no lights, fan on.

The problem is that this is a fairly recent machine model equipped with electronics 6 ways to Sunday. I honestly wouldn't recommend running it if the alternator is not producing sufficient output to turn out the charging light.
