Seeing as how you guys are photo hungry i thought you might like to see some mad inventions i have come up with over the years . Please feel free to post any that you have made to keep the thread alive . This is one i came up with after lying on the ground looking at all the brakes i needed to reline on my tri axle chassis tipper . I thought there has to be an easier way than removing all the wheels and spiders and all the mess that goes with it . So i came up with a 2 piece brake shoe that could be relined without taking the wheels/spiders off . The arched section stays attached with the anchor pins and return spring . The lined section is easily removed from the rear of the wheel by undoing three cap screws and sliding the old one out and then sliding the new one back in . The idea was too be able to do this while the fleet is busy and then when things are quite , do a major service ie. check bearings , replace seals , springs , rollers etc . If a loading shed had a pit in the center , the truck and trailer could be relined from underneath while the forklifts work above , NO DOWNTIME ....
This is my F100 i built . I needed a regular sized pickup for daily work and i also needed a longer light truck for carrying my show car and long building materials while i was building my pole home . But i did'nt want two vehicles , so when i made the steel tray for the back i also built another section with it's own axle , towbar and lights that attached to the front half . I have carried my 4 ton tractor on this truck .
I have seen that tray extension advertised, Iron Horse, would that be your design or has someone else copied it? The brake shoe design looks like a good idea, certainly a lot easier than taking the wheels off. I know, because we have just re-lined our tri-axle pig trailer. The only problem I see in our situation is that we run on dirt roads most of the time and by the time we are due for new linings our drums are worn out as well and have to be replaced. The shoes look like you are having them manufactured. Rn'R.
Iron Horse, that is a great idea, have you got some closer pics of how the two connect?
Iron horse, great idea for the truck. Got any better pictures of the Valiant? I am a big A-body fan, as I have a 69 Valiant 100 myself. Got any good Australian Valiant links? alan627b Oh, check this site out. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/
regarding the truck brakes ... ... I see that you are using the old style brakes. Why not upgrade to the new fangled quick change brakes? http://www.arvinmeritor.com/media/L...cial_vehicle_aftermarket/meritor/CVME005L.jpg
Partsdude , I don't think they were around when i made this prototype , it's been a while . alan627b , i have a million pics of the Valiant , this one is sadly heading for it's new owner . 360 small block , TF904 , 9 inch , 5 slot GT wheels , custom black glass etc etc . No links sorry , ive been away from the scene for a while . Noose , no i'm sorry . I also made some quick connect backing plates so that with a flick of a cam lock the two halves would come away to gain access with a right angle air ratchet to undo the shoes . Rocksn'Roses , yes i had it advertised for a while and yes someone is now copying it as my patent expired . Coming up with an idea is the easy part , finding backing is the hard part . This is my Tilt Tray truck (Roll Back) , when i designed it i wanted more than a conventional one could do as they can only tilt too about 25* . I wanted 55* so as to be able to tip grain and even wet clay from a quick release bin as well as slide back to load machinery . I omitted the two short under body rams and extended the slide rails all the way too the front . The headboard was in 3 pieces , a multi stage tipper hoist attached to the center section with the winch and spare tyre and the others went back with the tray .
nice job on that stuff iron horse! :drinkup
Thank's DigDug , this one is not truck related but is another of my ideas . It is a mobile phone with a flexible borescope attached . It can be used for viewing hidden objects ie. looking through a sump plug hole for a dropped nut etc . The illuminated camera shows an image on the phones LCD screen .
inventions Let see in 65 or 66 I thought of a sink with a cross drain so water wouldn't run on the floor. In 1968 when the Russians were invading Czechoslovakia inline roller skates.A solar water distaller in 72 , Israel started building it 3/4 years later. Just need money to persue things further. Other things as well. Now just waiting to get and put together cab& chassie and pickup box. Very bored most of the time.
Not exactly a 'new' invention, more of an innovation. An air compressor that ties directly into the trucks diesel tank. This allows the compressor to run when the truck is turned off. Saves 75 to 90% of fuel (and emissions) as the compressor uses far less than the truck. Ideal for service bodies and tire trucks. Not something that i personally came up with but something that i'm pushing for my company to start selling.
All of your inventions are great ideas. I like all of them!!
Thank you Hammer , nice of you to say . I have another that i have been thinking of . After seeing how much better a truck rides when a car is on the back and tied by the wheels allowing the car to float on it's springs . It is amazing how the car dampens the movement of the truck . I have come up with a thing i call "Active Ballast" . It is the mounting of the fuel tanks , batteries , air tanks etc on a subframe that is saddle bag mounted over the chassis via springs or airbags with shock absorbers . If your going to be carrying around all that ballast you may as well be using it . As a truck rides over a bump or drops into a dip the ballast will be softly working in the other direction to dampen the movement . The system would only require about 4" of travel in each direction so clearance should not be an issue .
