Madill 071 Productivity

sleddr ยท 2013-01-17 19:34

Wondering if anyone out there has a some decent production numbers for a Madill 071? Looking at stems per 8hr shift or cubic metres per shift. Running manual chokers, dropline carriage in hand fell wood... I know there are lots of factors that will effect production but I'm looking for a range that one could expect is typical.

Couldnt tell you myself as have never had anything to do with the 071. But an indication of what the deflection is like? piece size of the wood? and if you are planning on using a mobile tailhold/anchor or always on stumps may help with getting an accurate answer. goodluck

Asked a buddy that worked under one for about a year in NW Washington a couple years back. They used a motorized carriage for the most part, and mostly uphill yarding. 8 loads a day was their average. 32000 bdft a day equals about 75 m^3. I know they weren't in the best of wood, but might give ya an idea. I found a few papers written over in New Zealand about 071 production, but couldn't find them online.

I worked on all ends of 071 from chokerman to operator . Production depends on many differant factors, it's hard to say how much production you'll get without walking the whole setting . Looking from the road up or down at the setting gives you a general idea ,but you'll never know whats out their until you go out and check it out . Everyday is a differant day with new obstacles to over come. What i can say, is if you got a GOOD hard working crew and good running machine you'll have some decent production ( not everyday but most days :cool2 ) .. Good luck

As above, hauler production varies on terrain and crew skill, etc. An 071 in good going will do OK. They will pull 2 to 3 stems per drag north bending. In the good going (say 250m out and good deflection) you will do 110 ish stems per day or 200t. What kills production with these little haulers is how far out you span as they have poor line speed with no trans. All this means you end up logging stuff that should be done by a grapple yarder.
