Making a trail with a Deere 693Bpointers?

It's a very early 80's 693B feller bunches with a bucket so like a 690B. I have to get off the meanin road and get over a 4-5 foot deep ditch, (first time in an excavatorit should be interesting. Then make a 400 yard trail-- the wider the better. The 4 big teeth in the bucket are little numbs, don't know how good it will dig yet, but the ground is soft with 1 for of moss in lots of areas. Trees vary from insignificant little twigs to 2 foot trunks, most usually 8 inch to 1 foot diameter. Lots of wet areas How should I go about doing this?

What is the clearing for. Shooting lane or future roadway? How wet are the wet areas? Push the trees over in the wet area ahead of you and pull them crosswise in front of you making a corridor road out of them. Keep your tracks on them in the wet areas so they work like mats. Make sure you use plenty and don't get lengthwise on them. A heel would make life easier but with patience and common sense you should be alright. A chain is useful to pull a occasional tree into position if you are not in a big hurry. If it seems soft and shaky it probably is. You might want to put a cable or two around the undercarriage when you wade in to help in extraction just in case. Don't forget to post pictures. A good stuck should be enjoyed by all.
