Mega Corp. now making replacement for Cat 633 scraper

JDOFMEMI ยท 2009-09-30 20:04

I just found this link to Mega Corp and they are going to manufacture a replacement for the Cat 633, which is not being produced. It has a 631G series tractor, and a 633D style bowl with the swinging floor, not the ill fated sliding floor of the 633E. Here is the link to it: http://www.megacorpinc.com/cms/kunde/rts/megacorpinccom/docs/171449239-09-16-2009-14-00-06.pdf Says there it will be sold through Cat dealers, as well as parts support.

Interesting find. I wonder if it's the same machine I've found marketed as a 633G? While the 613 and 623 seem to fulfill most of the needs for small-scale dirt shifting and most larger finishing projects, I can see where a 633 could be a beneficial tool on the right kind of project.

Mass-X I would say it is not the same. The one in your picture has the 633E style sliding floor like a 623. The one from Mega is the 633D and older style with the swinging floor. That seems to be a lot more rugged design for this size of paddlewheel. With the swinging floor, you still have a fixed cutting edge that keeps the can boxed in for strength. The inside trunions for the floor can be a wear point, but way more reliable than the rollers for the sliding floor. One thing I see I think Mega should have changed is to use the "E" model style lift cylinder placement. One problem with the "D" and older ones was getting rocks caught in between the lift cylinders and the bowl while loading, and scuffing up the chrome. The 633 is a good stand alone production tool, and can still finish grade as well. Just keep it out of the small parking lot jobs and it will do fine.

Gents, those machines were aasembled downunder by Andy,s earthmovers who picked up 4 or 5 brand new E bowls from cat somehow and then married up DFA s/n 631G fronts to them. Heard they had a fair job to set them up cos' buy using the late 31G front it comes with no control valves as they are mounted on the crosstube of the bowl on a 31G/37G and obviously the 33E bowl has no control valves as it lives at the bottom of the levers next to the cab!! The valve i was told was fitted somewhere up on the gooseneck and some of the 37G auger machines strategies from the ECM had been incorporated to get it all going, factory had involvement and i heard they came asking questions if there was still a use for an eggbeater that size ofcourse which the answer was yes but i guess Cat marketing need to sell so many a year and if it does not it drops off the line unfortunately, a bit like the 651 line. The machines i am told have worked successfully and came with full wty etc when sold. The elevator still has a place and even the guys in the west have developed a 651E elevator, west Australia that is.

I didnt quite understand what you guys were saying about a 'swinging floor' till I looked at the pictures. Makes sence to me. Seems a heck of alot stronger than the slider. I tore the floor out of a 623B a few years ago just picking up some windrows left behind by the 31's Almost reminds me of a Terex/Euclid design for ther open bowl buggies. I personlly dont understand why Cat quit production on this size of padell wheel. Kinda like letting the 51's go away.

Unfortunately JTL it is very simple why they dropped the 33 and 51, they were not recieving any orders for them.

in a way it could be considered a G, i saw a couple in CA they re power the machines with acert engines to keep up with the emissions the G hood gives them the room they need.

Just found this one.. i did abitta work on x2 of these at ERTECH they were differant indeed.. the electrics were abit painful and there is an ongoing issue with the machine loosing all hydraulics from time to time which would only clear up by doing the joystick calibration, there operators loved them though These particular units are a 631G tractor so have the new style cab and C18 with a 633EII rear end, so their every bit a "633G" scraper, the sliding floor is a step back from the 633D swinging floor IMO, the adjuster setup for the elevator chains is also abit of a pain as we had the adjustor seize up which was a fun repair out of the back of a ute in the sticks

I also dont understand why they got rid of the 651's, company i used to work for had 8 of them and they could move some series dirt in a hurry! But you need a good haul road to hauld them up. And alos a 651 will go places a 631 wouldnt dream of, i guess with all that HP and ground clearance
