Greetings all. First time poster, long time reader... I bought a Michigan 175B loader 2 and half years ago, knowing it had a torque converter issue. 2 years later we've afforded the TC rebuild complete with imported parts (to Queensland Australia). We put her back together last week, but found transmission dipstick missing from end of cap. Called a mate who has same loader, he too missing the dipstick... Found another loader 4 hours away, "surprise, suprise" missing dipstick... Can anyone illuminate me on the dipstick overal length please including full, add etc. I'd be most grateful. Mechanics who assisted TC replacement after overhaul, took a bung out the LHS of TC and filled to this point. I'm unsure if this TC filling mode is right or in fact if TC and transmission oil are common fill etc FYI, Loader now goes forward and reverse. Better in reverse... Only had it going long enough to back it into shed for ram resealing and other general repairs. We don't know the machine, but the engine fires immediately, structurally sound and appears to be in clean and reasonable order. Hydraulics are strong. Thanks all.
Which model transmission? Is it the Clark?
Howdy, Yes the Clark Transmission 8V71 engine
There should 2 pipe plugs (1/8th inch if I remember right) on the transmission drop box ( side towards the covertor if I remember right again.) start the machine and warm the transmission oil. With machine in nuetral at operating temperature while the engine is running, remove the top plug and fill your transmission until the fluid starts coming out of that plug hole, then reinstall the plug. The system is full at that point then you can stick the tube to make you a dipstick!
I forgot to tell you, all the old Clark systems are common oil between the converter and transmission, whether they are standard converter ot remote mount. Hope this helps!
MinnPar has new parts for Michigan loaders: http://www.minnpar.com/partsordered.asp?Make=MICHIGAN / CLARK Do you have the part number of the dipstick you're looking for? I saw several dipsticks listed in there. http://files.minnpar.com/partbooks/WHEEL LOADER MANUALS/MICHIGAN VME WHEEL LOADER MANUALS/175 SERIES MACHINES/175B #3243.PDF They have free parts books as well. Looks like a dipstick for a 175B transmission/torque is a 568823. Here's some used ones available. https://www.machinerytrader.com/parts/construction-equipment/search?partnum=568823&pst=starts

Hel Hello we have the same loader just wondering how yours in for power we have ours on a 20ft stick rake and it struggles hard. Even with the bucket on does not like going into piles already dug up dirt will spin the wheels in first gear but only just Thansk
Sounds like you don’t have power issues , you have cutting edge or bucket problems. Or bald tires, or both.
If the torque stall RPM is too low, your problem is probably in the fuel rack of the engine causing low power. Have seen same problem many a time, after adjusting valves, injectors and fuel racks a totally different machine. Simon C
Hopefully the 8V-71 is in good shape. The alternate engine was a Cummins 855 which some preferred but may have cost more. I knew a guy who bought a new 175B with a Cummins. Said you couldn't hurt it.
