Got a job coming up that requires us to backfill 3' to 6' diameter holes, 50' deep, with sand. Typically I would just use a loader bucket, scoop, dump and push the sand into the hole. But considering we will be doing several holes a day, with LARGE quantities of sand, I want to optimize the process. Is there a good loader bucket attachment with some sort of funnel that I can place directly over the hole so there is no spillage on the sides of the hole? Is there a possible better piece of equipment to do this job?
Depends how much you want to spend. Does your loader have a quick attach, or are you wanting something to fasten to your bucket? A side dump bucket can be useful, but you would have to be waisting a lot of sand to justify the cost..We normally use a stone box if waisting material is a no no. Fill the box with the loader, and backfill with the excavator digging the material out of the box.
why don't you cut the bottom out of a stone box roughly the size of the hole and dump into the box? Basically creating a funnel.
dump truck with a coal door
Fabricating a funnel sounds like something I would consider. 53 yards in a 6’x50’ hole.
Interesting I can think of a couple ideas for building a funnel really though the fastest way would be to dump it in the hole and let the surge pile that builds up form funnel waste the surge pile or carry it to the next hole with 5 yard loader it shoulden't take long If you need to build a funnel it doesn't have to be round be easier to make it rectangular out of flat sheet might need a vibrator if its not clean free flowing sand is there compaction involved?
Rent a road widener. I spent a fair amount of time on them. Have the belt running at full throttle before you trip the truck tailgate and you will unload it in about a minute and a half. It is awesome for putting stone on slopes in front of a dozer to.
How close will you be able to get to the hole with caving it in? How are you going to compact the sand?
See quite a few of these around my parts for water/sewer work. Loader using the spoon to tram sand/washed rock directly into the hoe bucket. http://www.weldco-beales.com/ProductDetails/tabid/75/Default.aspx?productid=173&category=2
