I am looking for some recommendations into a mobile shredder for our "grind pile" at the sawmill I work at. Its mostly logs, bark, rough dry lumber, and general wood waste. We've had horizontal grinders contracted before, but they did not want to continue doing it due to the tramp metal and contaminated material tearing up their machines. Most recently, we've had someone with a Komptech Crambo 6000 slow speed shredder completed the work, and it seems to work well with no damage reported. Does anyone have any recommendations on other brands of slow speed shredder? Or another machine that will handle the contaminated material better? Price isn't really a concern as we spend ~40k a month on grinding currently at this site and it would possibly be a regional machine moving from mill to mill.
Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with slow speed shredders other than watching YT videos of them. Impressive machines none the less. Best of luck and keep us posted of what ya'll end up buying.
Universal Refiner used to be a good one. Do a search on the web. They used to be on Washington State.
Seen an outfit with a Komtech grinder feeding into a Morbark tub grinder. The Komtech had a magnet on the discharge belt to stop steel into the tub.
Depends on the material and the people operating the machinery. There is a variety of machinery operating in the South East One pass if you can have a person with a metal detector or an electro-magnet on a excavator checking material (Bateman Manufacturing , Canada). I have to go back and see how a grinder made in Italy got on after bad metal damage. Tigercat 6900 grinder has shear bolts etc. Tigercat 6900 grinding storm material (Cat engines 1050hp or 1200hp)(Would expect steel in a pile that big) Komptech Crambo 6000 as a primary, with steel removal and a secondary of a Rotochopper B66, MC266 etc (Minnesota) (if finer material or colored is required) Some of the short distance processing areas inside the shredder machine might need to split the logs or short blocks with a Westtech splitter etc. Rotochopper 75DK shredder Rotochopper 95DK shredder (770hp)
