Do you want more power to go faster or up steeper hills or are you having problems with the machine? Does it travel straight over a distance? Does its 2 speed work/show a marked difference when switched? How many hours does it have on it? I suspect that one of the first things you will be advised to check is the case drain from both motors but not being a proffessional spanner juggler we will wait and see. The questions are all relevant. :drinkup

It walks not to bad but i want to put dozer grouser plates on it and more power would be good for geting up the hills and for turning it

ARRRGH............now thats a completely different kettle of fish. :drinkup This could be an intresting thread. opcorn

If the hydraulic system is working properly all that can be done is turn up the pressure. Dozer pads are pretty extreme for that size of machine. Our loggers use two bar pads. They look like the standard three bar but the middle of the pad is open. I've seen those machines in places you could barely walk into. Why do you need the singles?

Get the circuit pressure checked to make sure its up to spec and do the oil change in the finals that Rob recommended then see how it goes when its all clean and tensioned properly. I never yet operated an excavator, of any size, that I didn't think could use more drive power....so I could climb mount Everest and push like a D9:cool2

A swivel reseal most likely won't hurt either.

Best thing might be to fit wide pads, the track motor pressure is about the highest pressure on the excavator, its set fairly good to avoid gear damage, I would check the engine speed to make sure Full Beans are comming out the can, then check for straight line travel, if all is good look to increase the track pad width with plates (3 Bar) that are at least 100mm longer than what you run, this will increase the low down weight and stability of the excavator, fitting single large grouser plates to an excavator is not a good idea, the track drives calve down enough without any trouble, the slip that is built into 2 and 3 bar plates helps to make things last tctractors p.s. after seeing the Horror Video of the excavator on this forum, check things out befor you start any antics, best of luck for 2010. tctractors

if i were you i would get a fitter to check the pressure/valves/seals...also make sure you have no debris under the track pedals ...but it costs more the a ferrari but not as fast...why race down the field to shag one of the cows when you can stroll down and do the lot...

I'm just going to put dozer pads on every second link so it will go single bar then three bar single bar three bar and so on. Do you think it will work ok?

Ben, the PRV only blows off when the the track is in stall mode, its your excavator and its your right to do anything you so wish, you have not said /stated the size of the Boots you are running on the excavator or their condition, by fitting 1 single then 1 3bar plate you are in for an interesting ride come firm ground, I have in the past done all sorts of tricks to get more grip in very poor conditions on shovels and blades but never on excavators, all I have done on Excavators is fit wide pads. tctractors

Are you going to put worn out single pads on that are about the same height as the triples?

wide pads to help with sinking i have done. But traction i always liked the double the single grouser's a freaking rough I think you would be happy with a nice set of double bar pads. Just my two cents tho

So do you need more power or more traction? If your hydraulics are stalling out, more traction is not going to help.

Make sure the brakes are releasing fully, and the traction motor circuits are getting full factory set pressure. Like others, I'd avoid the single grouser shoes. The two grouser shoe is better and it will give a better ride. I've used and maintained single grouser excavators in the past. They were hard on the drive train, it not being robust as a crawler tractors. Very hard to turn in clay or loamy soils, even loose sand is rough. It's possible that CAT could adjust pressures up a smidgen over factory sets for you. You would have to contact your local CAT house service department for that information. Good Luck!
