Moving dirt

We have a road to build across a stream. It’s gonna be like 70 yards long maybe 4040 wide. We’re gonna move the dirt with our 14 yard pan. We have cleared off an area on top of a hill. Trying to do as efficiently as possible and not move any dirt more than we have to. The road coming into the crossing has a slope on both sides. Not bad but it’s slopes. My son suggests stripping the top soil off the top of the hill and pilling it on the side of the road heading to the crossing then take the dirt we strip off the hill to build the road to the crossing. After we get so far with it start loading the top soil on the way back and start putting it back on top of the hill. So eventually we will be loaded both ways. I was thinking more of stopping one side off the area on top of the hill and depositing it on the other side of the striped hill. Basically going in circles on top of the hill and after you finish the push the top soil back to cover the stripped area with a dozer. The area on top of the hill is approx 30yrds x 80yrds. Just a rough guess. I’ll measure it on Monday. I’m attaching a drawing. Maybe now if this makes sense but I’d it does please advise.

On those kinds of jobs, i don't like putting topsoil back until the end of the job in case i underestimate the amount of fill needed and also so i can overall blend the borrow area before putting topsoil back so in a few years it will be hard to tell where the fill was borrowed. But, that's just me. Its your show

That’s why my son said pile it off the borrow site. Absolutely appreciate your advice

It would be my luck to have half the top soil placed before the shaping is done and couple of big a## rains come and really screws the whole thing up.
