It all started with long cranking issues, no smoke from stack,no fuel. After long cranking issues, would start. Run ok. I used fuel lift pump once, started right up. Then later it took several minutes of fuel transfer pump working to get fuel up to par. Rubber primer button shot due to weather cracking. This Dodge style plunger is not available by itself!, Needed to purchase whole lift pump. (If anyone needs this dodge/cummins pump....contact me, there is a dealer here that is overstocked, selling them for 75.00! Easy job installing. Still unable to get good prime! while pumping I could hear air and see small bubbles around the fuel filter! Just needed to be tightened. After braking a line above it to prime lines...It fired right up. My fuel lines are ready for replacing and will be soon with Parker tough cover. Check everything, listen for air. Fill filter before install. Listen for fuel dumping back into gas tank once prime is made...this is normal for the low pressure side priming. System should not get air during storage. Hope this can save headaches/time that I had. Ross
What a mess! I've had to prime a loader after it ran out of fuel (site tank empty boss said go as long as you can) and to say that the primer is worth 75 bucks is a crock. Glad you got the problem fixed though.
For two weeks i thought I was spending $200.00 for dealer item for repair! Then I stumbled onto the fact that the application was for Dodge also, and started searching cummins supply shops. Two or more problems are a pain to rectify easily. Ross
Turco, Please rethink your advice about prefilling the filter with fuel before installing it. Any residue or dirt that may get into the center of the fuel filter by a contaminated container or nozzle that the last person to use dropped in the dirt will be past the filtering medium and can go directly to the injection pump possibly rendering it a piece of junk in minutes. Please take the extra time to spin the filter on dry and prime with the hand pump so all fuel going to the pump is filtered in the conventional manner. The technicl service people at Case are adamantely opposed to the fill first method with good reason. Not to be combative, just poining out the obvious, we've all done it in the past but there are obvious dangers to doing so. Mel
Absolutely right, The close tolerances in this pump are need for special care. Please follow melbens methods. Whats a few more pumps on the plunger any ways! Ross
