ok, so my injector pump on my 310a froze up and broke the driveshaft. i sent it off to be rebuilt. i also had the injectors gone through. after a few months i got them back, and upon re installation i discovered the timing marks on my rebuilt pump didn't match the keyway in the driveshaft gear. the keyway on the driveshaft was about 180 out . i pulled the shaft out thinking it was installed wrong, but the markings on the end of the new driveshaft matched with the mark inside the pump. i flipped it anyway and goit the timing to match up, almost. the motor was never disturbed, the pin was always in the flywheel locking it in place. it doesnt run. there is fuel to the injectors, and it coughs with starting fluid, but wont run. anyone have experience with this type of scenario? should i pull the pump off and switch the dcriveshaft back where it was? any help would be appreciated.
Is it a Roosa Master pump? How was the shaft indexed to the gear? A pin or key? Some pictures would be helpful if you are able.
its a stanadyne, so yeah. same as roosa master. jdb 431 or 3027. the pump driveshaft has a keyway right after the threads . the gear that the shaft goes into has a keyway cut out of it. with the timing marks lined up in the window of the pump, and the motor locked in place by the pin in the flywheel, the keyways lined up when i pulled the pump to have it rebuilt. now with the rebuilt pumps timing marks lined up in the window of the pump, the keyway on the driveshaft is at 2 oclock and the slot in the gear is at 6;30 ish. the motor has not been disturbed. the driveshaft is installed correctly.
The pump drive gear should not be able to come unmeshed with it's drive gear unless the front cover is taken off, so it should not have moved. Did you have it on TDC of the compression stoke on #1 when you took it out or was it on the TDC of exhaust? I would try what "imegravity" said and see what happens.
Hey people, so I pulled the pump off and switched the driveshaft back where it was originally. Locked the motor in place with the pin and reinstalled the pump. The timing marks on the pump didn't line up when I positioned the driveshaft to line up with the keyway on the gear, so I was kind of worried about finding tdc again without the timing marks to go by. But it runs now, so , that's a good thing. I appreciate all the advice. It's a good feeling to know there are people in your corner when things get complicated.
