90 inch gauge machine with D353 6 cylinder engine with 385 hp and 3 spd powershift transmission. There were lots of configurations made, but an SU blade was approx 14.5 ft wide and the machine weighed about 90,000 lbs in operating condition, more with a ripper.

D9GDon has covered the basics pretty well. Weight is dependent on the tractor setup, whether it's just the bare tractor, or if it has a blade and ripper, or just blade - and whether it has a cab, and whether the cab is open or fully enclosed. The bare tractor upon its release in 1960 was 64,400 lbs. However, it gained weight as the years went by, and engineering improvements were made. Then Cat started changing how the weight was measured, and moved to "operating weight". "Operating weight" was generally regarded as the tractor equipped with a blade, operator, full fuel and oils, but no cab. Later on, as ROPS became mandatory, an open ROPS was included in the operating weight. Other factors affecting weight are accessories fitted such as guards, tree canopies, whether heavy duty ("extreme service") pads are fitted, condition of undercarriage, type of blade (Angle, Straight or Semi-U). We always worked on the average late model D9G, commonly equipped locally with enclosed ROPS, straight blade, 3 valve hydraulics, and 3 shank ripper, as weighing over 50 tonnes (110,000lbs).
