Hello guys and this forum is the best bye the way tons info for equipment heads like me my troubles are on d5h i just purchased the engine was lugging badly in first gear i mean it would bog down going up a hill without blade touching the ground and torque would get hot after about an hour and left steering clutch would start chattering took sterring clutch apart and and they looked and messured good as new but replaced them anyway and piston seals too started checking pressures on torque inlet was good outlet was way low so took it off and guess what some one has taken the spool out of the valve so trip to cat dealer and 200 bucks latter got spool and reinstalled valve still could not get outlet up to spec so i suspected torque c seals crawled under tractor after getting it good hot and drained torque housing got bout gallon dealer said it was ok so i started looking again i took seat out and where shift linkage goes in cluth case and started tractor so i could see in there while the steel lines were pressurized and low and behold the steel line that goes to torque has come out where it goes through clutch case on the other side is a flat face fitting and hydr hose that goes to top of torque my question is how can i fix this i assume the tube is swaged in the case has this hurt the torque running it this way tranny filter was clean changed it and cut old one open no metal or aluminum i can remove left clutch and get to line for repair just dont know how to fix looking for ideas thanks
Welcome to the forum jobob. :usa I'm not a Cat mechanic, but you lost me here. Can you explain this a little better as to what it is and how it could be causing your problem?
sorry i get a little caried away the tractor is 1988 d5h the problem is torque is heating and when it does the left steering clutch starts chattering what i`ve found wrong is the outlet relief valve on torque converter someone had taken the spool out of it i dont know why they would have done that i replaced spool and set pressure on valve but could not get it to factory spec still had heating problem after about an hour i finally found that the steel line that feeds the torque converter has come loose where it goes through the rear case going to torque converter i`m looking for ideas on fixing this. the line is pressed into the case also would like to get opinions about damage to torque converter from being operated with line broken and low pressure because i dont know how long it has been this way also if the steering clutch problem is related it never chatters until right before the torque overheat light comes on the clutches and piston seals in the steering clutch are new
Again, I know nothing about the innards of this machine, but, are you sure about this? Seems to me, if you have any line "loose", it's going to leak oil. I don't recall you mentioning anything about a leak. Also, are you sure it's a steel tube "pressed" into the rear case? Or is it a steel tube that fits into a hole in the case that's sealed with an o-ring?
i suggest you check the brake linkage. some of the hytrac dozers are known for the brake to not fully release this will cause the exact problem your having. try disconecting the linkage that runs under the floor to the valve just for brakes. make sure that valve is going all the way back closed. i have had this problem on two of our d5s and our d8s
sorry the steel tube in the case is leaking pressure oil that feeds the torque converter i have checked the brakes they are operating properly i`m sure the broken steel line is my problem i just dont really know how to fix it i`m going call a friend of mine at heavy quip monday i think he`s delt with this problem before
