Need help JD 310j extend a hoe cylinder leaking

Mike310j ยท 2019-06-17 01:15

Hey everyone bought a JD 310j about 6 months ago and it just started leaking hydralic fluid from the extend-a-hoe cylinder or it might be the hoses. Either way the extension needs to come out for me to access the cylinder.. so im wondering how hard that is to do as i have never done it before so im thinking i might want to have someone do it but dont wanna be over charged so does anyone know about how much this type of fix cost.. im in southern california if that helps narrow price a bit. Thanks to all in advance and hope to be a part of this community. Thanks

First thing you need to determine before starting is where or what is leaking. Usually can just loosen the wear plate adjustment mechanism, remove the cylinder pin and slide the arms out . I used a engine puller and balanced the weight of the arm and slowly slid it out. Weight is about 500lbs.

I have done a Case 580D study the machine more than likely you will drive pin out that pins the end of cylinder attached to the dipper. Then remove the whole assemble. Then unpinn cylinder and remove. If you take the bucket off and lay it out flat it is not to hard, you will need something to lift it, we have forklifts at the shop, no problem. A good tree branch and a ratchet hoist would do it.

Hey there guys thanks for the info.. trying to figure out if its better to have someone do this as i would need to purchase some kind of hoist to hold and remove the extension.. i have removed smaller exterior cylinders just never this one that is hidden away.. i figure if im removing all those parts might aswell replace all hoses and repack cylinder while im in there anyways.. by any chance do either of you know how much a job like this would go for?
