Need help to ID museum CAT tractor

RTT Auto Museum · 2024-07-10 19:47

Need help to ID and date two tractors donated to our museum. One looks to be a D7 Crawler (?). Only serial number visible is 140658 (but could be a part or casting #). Second is a D9, serial #17A3997. Any info greatly appreciated.

17A is a D7 built 1956. The other, assuming it still has the original engine, can be identified by the engine S/N tag or it should be stamped on the back upper left. I’m gonna guess 3T prefix made 44-55, lots of them were built. Like 28k of em. Military version of that age D7 would be a 4T prefix.

So the second one is a D7 and not a D9?

It was indeed a wonderful donation. I am continually surprised on how incredible some of the pieces we get donated to us really are. Love it!

The pics. look like toys and the 2nd one looked a little too small to be a D9.
