I am considering purchase of a 1984 cat 936 can any one give me any specific to this model advice on issues they may have to watch for? Thanks.
I've had 4 of them. Great machines. Only issues were leaks on the valves for the loader controls under the cab. The small hex-head screws would back themselves out. A little lock-tite would solve this. Parking brake issues, but that was mostly operator error due to lack of adjustment, not tight enough to remind a guy to release them, but tight enough to really get it hot and smoke the brake lining. Drain the air tank often. The brake lines would rust through because the guards would get full of mud and retain moisture, simply remove the guards from the axle and inspect and clean. They are usually a utility machine for a larger contractor, so not assigned a particular operator, they may suffer from a lack of grease and have worn pins. Good luck!
Thanks it is good to know they are a good machine, like most cats. lol just didn't want to buy it and find out "every one knows that bla bla bla".
