New To Me 955L Ser # 85J10604

I have been keeping my eyes open for some time for another track loader with a ROPS on it & made a 2 1/2 hr drive to look at this one this morning & ended up buying it. It looks to be a pretty clean unit that operates well. Couldn't really do any heavy digging but was able to move it around & try out the various functions on it for 20 minutes or so. A couple of the hyd cylinders need to be repacked. The sheet metal on the exterior looks to be in exceptional condition for it's age. Plan to go & pick it up one day next week.

Might want to think twice about that machine! Looks like there is a dead body in the second picture.

Looks good, I've always liked the 955, if I had a need for one I'd probably have one. Yours looks nice and straight. If you do any restoration or repairs post pics here please.

Or at least a left leg!!!! Looks to be a pretty straight machine for it's age.

Made the trip up with the lowboy today to pick up the 955L Loader & have it back at our yard now. Ordered & have a complete set of filters to change in it tomorrow along with any oils that need changing. Also have a seal rebuild kit for the RH tilt cylinder to put in, as it is leaking pretty bad. Anyone know offhand where the magnetic screen for the transmission is located on the 955L (assuming there is one)?

Well If you have even looked at it you probably know that it is right next to the transmission filter! But here is the drawing off of SIS: And here it is on the transmission case:

Rails and shoes appear recent, bucket rust belies the old girl was sitting quite awhile, fluids and filters would be first on my list. Nice looking unit, wish I had found it in MO.

Thanks for pointing out the location of the screen KH. DM......yes it had not been used much by the seller for some time. He has some excavators now & just didn't use the loader any more, so decided to sell it. Undercarriage (Berco) is in good shape, looks to be 70% left, however the left front idler moves up & down perhaps 5/8" when working it. Have to check that out. Before we service it today, we plan to pull off all the covers & belly pans & power wash it down............see what we find then.

Did a servicing & pressure washing on the 955L today, changing the engine oil, & all filters except hyd as we didn't get that far. Fluids in the bevel gear compartment & the transmission looked very clean, as did the old filters, so we only changed the filters for now. Plan to change out the final drive fluids as well, as someone put #90 gear oil in them. Everything seems quite dry on the machine, just one tilt cylinder needs to be repacked. The magnetic screen looks pretty good I think when we pulled it out? This is what she looks like power washed up.

Take samples of the oil from all compartments, this will be you base line sample, after which sample at each service interval to show wear history.

Got all of the servicing done on the loader & this is our first day on the job with it loading some dirt.

I wonder how long it took to warm up to work properly in Ontario in the winter with #90 in the finals. It sure looks clean in the pictures. I really like the 955L series.

I'd be investing in a spare load of 1" or 2" rock with fines, we call that minus here Inch minus or 2 inch minus, have him WHEN TIME PERMITS move the pile from a region of the yard to another just to practice.
