New tracks on D4H CAT

Hello folks I'am getting ready to put a new set of tracks, rails , bottom rollers and sprokets on my D4H dozer. Any sugestions on how to go about it or things not to do. Any advice would be appreciated . I had thought of using a crib block between the 6 way blade and front idlerer to get all the grease out of the chamber to get all the slack in the track Will this work? Also what model winches will fit a D4H series 3 CAT ?

Hi Crowfarm there no machine easier to put tracks on than A D4h . The best way and the way I'd do it in the field if possible is find a level area about three times the lenght of the machine . Put couple good hardwood blocks under the blade. crib under the drawbar as tight as you can the push blade down and this will raise machine off ground now loosen track ajuster valve and tracks will loosen leave valve loose till your all done. rotate tracks till your master links are a little above center on the rear idler support one link below the master link with a block or hyd jack remove the master pad bolts . do one side at a time . once bolts are out and link seperates raise the blade so machine is back on track now drive machine foward till track is off and laying flat on ground, back up and put blocking back were you had it before raise machine back up high enough to get your track rollers off. BE SURE to crib under the front of machine now to keep it from comming down .Dont rely on the hydraulics. after changing your rollers and segments take your new track roll it out in front of your old one get it so its tight to your old one now drive machine onto new track . drive onto it so there is enough new track stickin behind your idler to go little above center on your idler About 2 ft.now use tractor , or pick up and long chain from the back of your dozer up and over the final drive and front idler and pull the front of the new track backward tward your sprocket once it gets to your sprocket have someone run dozer hold other side so it does not turn and put in reverse pull track onto sprocket while it slowly turns. Lift the section of track that sticks out behind the rear idler so its up against idler and support it with hyd jack or block now slowly back only the side your putting track on when it gets tight it will pull the idler back rest of the way . when the ends of the master link get close stop. you will have to clean all the paint from the mateing surfaces of the link halfs and the master track pad mounting surface. once clean slowly back up again just the side your putting on till the link haves are together you'll have to use small line up bar to finish aligning link halfs install pad and bolts and tighten track adjust valve and adjust track . repete on other side.
