HUH, WHAT DID YOU SAY? I CAN'T HEAR YOU. It's never hurt me, don't listen to the old wives tales about burning valves, at least if you have the manifold on a diesel.

what about excess heat in engine compartment?

Besides heat, black soot all over everything that is supposed to be reasnably clean is never good, but if you can solve that, go for it.

I wam currently running a friends Liebherr Excavator that had this same problem. He had taken a piece of flex pipe and mounted it onto the end of the manifold and just stuck it out of the back compartment (attached a piece of 90 degree to the back and clamped the pipe onto it) which directed the smoke and heat out of the compartment. Loud as hell but still doesnt scream as bad as the ol' 955L when its at full throttle.

Get the exhaust out of the machine, it plays, uhhh, heck with the wiring. Then you will have problems.

an exhaust leak will clog your air filter and reduce power as well
