Have a D3b that was running as should be.,24y27267..45v36373..3204.Unloaded off of trailer and had walked it about 30 yards.Machine died like it had run out of fuel.Checked fuel, still had about 30 gal.in the tank.Tried starting and it would pop off for about 3 seconds and die.Tried the usual checks...put on new fuel filter, air filters,While cranking, bled the fuel lines.Hand pump was frozen.Tried starting w/ether ,still no pop off.Seems like after about 6 times of cranking,it would start for about 3 to 5 seconds and die.would not help to spray with ether to keep running.Am getting fuel to the injectors, while cranking..again after about 4 to 6 times of cranking it would pop off for about 3-5 seconds.Any ideas where to start?
Not getting enough fuel. I'd guess the screen on the inlet line is plugged. It's hidden in a long hex fitting where the fuel goes into the transfer pump. Just helped a guy with a 931C with the same no start problem.
Also the check valves in the transfer pump cant die and wont check so good
Still no start.Does anyone have the fuel pressure # for this machine?Seems to not turn over fast enough to get fuel to the injectors?
What all have you checked or done? Do you get any smoke? The starter could be the problem. That was one of the issues with my friends 931C in addition to the plugged screen. Engine turned enough to get some fuel and had some smoke but didn't turn fast enough to fire. Put a new gear reduction starter on and it was a night and day difference. Still needed about 3 small shots of starting fluid but roared to life and starts right up afterwards. Starter is a royal pain to remove and replace. Gear reduction starter weighs about 20lbs. less and is much easier to install.
What smoke comes out is black, when it does pop off, it has quite a bit of bl ack smoke.Have took the starter to a shop and checked out good.
Probably not generating enough heat from turning too slow.
transfer pumps were famous for low pressure after check valves wear if you have a priming pump try pumping it wile cranking normally they usually will start then psi should be around 30 psi
I think the OP's serial number has an extra number in it but I don't think it would have a manual priming pump. My 86 931B doesn't have a priming pump. My friends 931C that I just helped get running just needed to turn faster after cleaning the screen. It did require some starting fluid even though it had smoke.
got an updated serial #24y01411...engine is 45v36375..D3b.we have tried everything except pulling the fuel pump and gettting it tested.Could someone please look up the part #'s for the complete fuel pump assy.Thanx.
The black smoke while trying to start bothers me did you try pulling the hose from the air cleaner of at the head??
When you say the starter checked out good did they check it under load? I only say that because my friends 931C turned over fine but was less than half the speed it should have been. New starter spun it over faster than a car but still needed a few small shots of starting fluid.
