http://www.khou.com/news/texas-news/Runaway-bulldozer-destroys-West-Texas-home-116569068.html Some body's Insurance is going to be upset.
Didn't something real similar happen last year somewhere in Texas? I think it was an excavator in low. The worlds slowest collision.
I don't remember. But they said the dozer just started up and took off.Yea right.I couldn't tell but I think it is pretty new.Has to be in neutral to start. The doors were locked but key must have been in it.Somebody done this.
I agree with ya bill. Even if it started, with safety lever down, the parking brake is applied and there's no pilot oil going to the control system. If safety lever was up, that locks out starter circuit. Hmm, sounds like a destruction prank to me.
It was a Deere J-series, I believe a 750. the lockout has to be down to start the you have to raise the lockout to be able to move. And its from Hertz, is that bad publicity for them or free advertisement? Regardless the newscaster did a terrible job of covering this story.
Seat switch?
40 years ago, saw case backhoe would sometimes start by it self( three times that we knew of). A mechanic changed starter solenoid and never happened again.
40 years ago, case had cable fuel shutoff and all the safeties were in the starter cicuit. If the cable was in, and the starter got electricity, (sounds like solenoid contact spring weak in this case), the engine would start, regardless of trans. It would be a much more complicated process on a modern dozer.
Insurance fraud taken to a new level?
Case used to have tractors that would do that, too. I don't see how it would be possible for that dozer to do anything by itself. Either the starter lever is down and it will start but won't run, or the lever is up and it won't start. Somebody started it, got it going, and bailed, locking the door behind them.
Well it was one of three things.A prank. An ex employee that was not happy getting fired. That looked like a Mobile Home so maybe they wanted a real house. I did find a story on a dozer hitting a house and garage with a boat an the wifes brand new car.Teen agers took it for a joy ride got it stuck but when they bailed it got unstuck.Happened in Friendswood near Houston TX.Law did catch them which was a miracle.
Mabye they were shootin a 2011 version of Maximum Overdrive...and nobody wants to admit it :falldownlaugh
Twenty-odd years ago a neighbor was having some dozer work done by the local dozer operator and one evening once finished for the day he parked it on the edge of a field visible to the road. It was an older 93J D-5. Well at some point that evening the unit miraculously started itself up and went tearing out across that open field through a couple of wire fences and across the narrow road it boarded. Once across the road it was on our property traveling further inside our boundary where it got hung up on a metal fence corner brace. Again, it "miraculously" backed itself up and off the brace and took off in a slightly different direction. After that it ventured further off and deeper into our property on a long slightly meandering path. About 5am that morning we were awoken by a SO deputy knocking at the door wondering if we knew what had happened down the road where there was barbed wire and fence posts and all manner of stuff strewn across the road and leading into one of our pastures. My dad jumped in with him and they went back down to there and started to follow the dozer tracks back through the pasture where they found that dozer butted-up against a fairly good sized Live Oak tree where it had finally met something it couldn't push through and had killed itself. It seemed pretty clear that "somebody" had spotted the dozer that evening and decided to entertain themselves by firing it up and turning it loose for poops and grins. They even hung around for a while, saving it when it got stopped on the fence brace, and then turned it loose again afterward. Apparently they got tired of following it once it got very far off into the pasture or they just got spooked and eventually walked off and left it to whatever fate befell it. Local SO found some shoe tracks in the neighbor's field that shouldn't have been there but that's about as far as any investigation went and no one to my knowledge was ever detained over the ordeal. People do these kinds of things for all kinds of reasons..........entertainment......revenge......money.......or any combination of previously mentioned.
jd link:bouncegri I better shut up...
there was a movie around 40 years ago called d-9 about a dozer that hit some kind of something from outer space or something along those lines that went on a killing rampage.
It was called "Killdozer", about a D9 which hits a glowing meteorite, you can find clips of it on U tube.
